Safetynett has generated what could be described as a deceptive outcome, brought about through inprovisation and jamming but only after having been securely underpinned by definite and concrete musical ideas. This apparently paradoxical 'both worlds' approach can make it hard to tell the difference between points where the sonic architecture is constructed on a solid concrete foundation, where it's been assembled using certain prefabricated elements or even when something has been hewn and pared back from a larger, more unwieldy block or deconstructed from a sprawling assemblage. Maybe it's easier to hear when he just has a song to sing. Grooves tumble and bubble, instruments and vocals float, slide and entwine without losing their way unless they feel like it, taking detours down ways less travelled. The musical foundations or anchors ensuring that if things are not exactly rooted or grounded then at least they maintain their identity, even if all the while they might be questioning that identity.
